Join us

The door is open.

We do not rush this. Walking the path with us begins with curiosity, deepens through participation, and only later — if it is right for both you and us — becomes formal membership. Here is how it works.

The path

How a person comes to belong.

1. Get in touch.

The first step is simply to write to us. Use the form below, or come to a public event. Tell us a little about yourself and what is drawing you to Heathenry. We will write back. There is no application fee, no obligation, no pressure.

2. Come to an open event.

We hold seasonal festivals and other gatherings that are open to the public. These are the easiest way to actually meet the people in the community, see how we hold ritual, and get a feel for whether this is a place where you'd like to spend more time. There is no commitment to any of it. Come, eat, drink, listen, leave.

3. Walk with us for a season.

If after a few gatherings you want to go deeper, we will invite you into a longer engagement — typically about a year, encompassing the major festivals of a full Heathen calendar. During this period you can attend members-only events, meet with sector leaders to find where your gifts fit, and decide for yourself whether the community is one you want to make commitments to.

4. The Oath Ring.

If, at the end of that season, both you and the community feel the fit is right, we offer formal membership through the Oath Ring ceremony. You will swear — in the presence of the gods, the ancestors, and the assembled community — to keep the values of Heimdall's Watch and to support its members and its mission. In return, we swear the same to you. The ring is yours to keep, a tangible reminder of the words you have spoken and the kin who heard them.

Who we welcome.

Heimdall's Watch is open to adults of any race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religious background. We welcome converts as fully as those raised in the tradition. The only thing we ask is that you come in good faith and are willing to engage seriously with the path. We do not police belief — we will not ask you to recite a creed — but we do ask that members hold to the Nine Noble Virtues and stand with our position on inclusion.

If you are under 18, you can still get in touch — many of our public events are family-friendly, and we welcome questions from anyone — but formal membership is for adults only.

What we ask, what we offer

The trade is fair.

What we ask of members

  • Active participation in the life of the community — attending major rituals, contributing to sector work, showing up.
  • Membership dues on a sliding scale based on capacity. We do not turn anyone away for inability to pay.
  • Honoring the oaths sworn at the Oath Ring ceremony.
  • Holding to the Nine Noble Virtues in your dealings with the community and the wider world.
  • Standing with our position on inclusion and against the appropriation of Norse symbols by hate movements.

What we offer in return

  • A community of people walking the same path — for friendship, support, mentorship, and frith.
  • Regular ritual, festival, and educational programming through the year.
  • Sector-based opportunities to develop and contribute your gifts.
  • Rites of passage — naming, coming of age, handfasting, funeral — held by people who know you.
  • A voice in the governance of the community, through your sector leader and at general gatherings.
  • The protection and obligation of frith: kin who will show up for you, as you show up for them.
